One of the most important weapons that I have found for protection against demonic spirits in the home is the anointing oil.
Upon arriving at Bethel Colony of Mercy on January 1, 1984 from Columbia Graduate School of Bible and Missions in Columbia, S.C., I was ready to proclaim the Gospel to alcoholics and drug addicts. Not long after arriving here I encountered a demonic spirit in our home. That was the beginning of a long season, twelve years, that my family and I were tormented. It was a baptism of being immersed in spiritual warfare of which I had little knowledge.
Needless to say, I began to study and become equipped to battle “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”(Ephesians 6:12)
The spirit of fear tormented us for twelve years in our home. Then I learned about anointing the home with oil. Scripture reveals to us that oil is used to anoint objects and places. “And you shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and you shall hallow it and all its utensils, and it shall be holy.” (Exodus 40:9) We need to anoint our homes and sanctify them wholly unto the Lord.
In order to keep the death angel from coming in to kill their first-borns, the LORD had His people anoint the doorposts and lintels of their homes with the blood of the Passover Lamb. (Exodus 12) Evil spirits do not need a door to enter a home. They can pass through any wall. But, the door is symbolic of an opening. We have many openings in our homes such as doors, windows, fireplaces, air ducts, etc. Since there are no more blood sacrifices, the counterpart of the blood today is the anointing oil.
After twelve years of being tormented by a spirit of fear in our home, I invited a few spiritually mature friends to join me in anointing our home with oil. We went through anointing the doors, windows and vents in our home. Before anointing the final door, I commanded, in the Name of Jesus, that every evil spirit in the house leave through that unanointed door. Those evil, demonic spirits left our home. One of our friends stated that they felt them go out. My wife, Cathi, said it was the first time since moving there that the house did not seem dark to her.
We then anointed that final door and asked the LORD to sanctify and seal our home and invited His presence in our home. That particular anointing brought a peace in our home that we had not experienced since we were in seminary.
According to one spiritual warrior from whom I have learned much, there are other areas that need to be sealed. Anoint the cord that goes to your computer from the phone jack, asking the LORD to seal it so that no demons can be sent into your home through the computer. Another suggestion is to anoint the mirrors in your home. The mirrors are not evil, but can be used as a doorway for evil spirits to enter. “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh; for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” (II Corinthians 10: 3-4)
This anointing of your home will fail if you have objects such as idols, drugs or occultic paraphernalia. Let me suggest a book, Spiritual House Cleaning: Protect Your Home From Spiritual Pollution, by Alice and Eddie Smith for further help.
If you feel the need to re-anoint your home occassionally, you will only need to open the main door, command the evil spirits to leave, anoint the door again and ask the LORD to seal your home, inviting His presence back in your home.
